How Focusing Can Help Us Carry Relationships Forward: Focusing as a Relational Skill (NYC Event)

Focusing not only brings us into connection with ourselves and others, it also opens a vast but subtle dimension of empathy and understanding for the "Us," the unique interconnected living organism of relatedness that we are.

In this workshop we will explore how we can sense into our relationships as well as ourselves and the other. We will show how giving voice to all three dimensions (the "I", the "you" and the "us") can carry relationships forward.

Focusing on what matters: Happiness as a mindful practice

Most of us reflexively dwell on our problems and concerns. However, there is convincing recent research that by placing attention on positive experiences and positive feelings (such as gratitude and enjoyment), we can think more effectively and expansively. In addition, attending to the positive in one's life has been shown to cultivate psychological resilience. People who have a higher ratio of "positivity" to "negativity" have more energy and better health.

All of the findings of Positive Psychology remain abstract until we get a way to incorporate these findings into our lives. Focusing is the vehicle that makes it possible to turn this pursuit into an actual lived experience, a mindful practice. This is what we will practice in this experiential workshop.
